Ebby’s House is a great old cottage located on the peaceful Big Creek finger of Lake Sequoyah. If you’re coming to Highlands to get away from it all, take long walks in the woods, soak your cares away in a huge bubble bath, laugh with loved ones, read or write a good book, or refresh your spirit, you’ll most likely adore this place.

For over twenty-five years, this house has been shared with folks who are drawn to the natural beauty of Highlands. Though referred to as a cabin or cottage by many, Ebby’s house is a 1,100 square-foot, two-story structure of wood and stone. This home has a sense of history: its walls have been filled with love and laughter since Ebby brought it into the family in 1978. She was the one who began sharing the home with others, and her daughter Sarah, son-in-law Bob, and grandson Nathaniel continue the tradition, hoping that all who enter will find joy and comfort within.

Close to town and scenic waterfalls, this home gives you the freedom to cook your own meals, paddle a canoe or kayak, or simply lounge on the back porch and watch the hummingbirds fly by. This home is fully furnished with most modern conveniences, including things rarely found in vacation rentals like assorted table linens, fresh herbs from the garden in the summer months, spices and many kitchen condiments, jumbo cotton towels, and an eclectic book and music library. Your suitcases and smiles are all that you need bring.

Though the majority of our guests visit in the summer and fall, we are available for winter visits, too. We can’t promise you snow for Christmas or that the lake will be frozen hard enough to skate on, but the fireplace in the kitchen is a great place by which to sit and tell tall tales.

Some of our amenities are as follows: daily hummingbird shows in the summer on the back porch; a fireplace in the eat-in kitchen; a six-foot claw-foot tub in the downstairs bathroom; cooking utensils; dining service for twelve; bed, bath, and dining linens; a cable TV with DVD player; a stereo mini-system; refrigerator; washer and dryer; charcoal grill (BBQ); blow dryer; iron and ironing board; games; books; music; puzzles; movies; canoe and two-person kayak with life jackets and paddles; outdoor dining table and candle lanterns; hammock; a most lovely garden; hiking and day-trip information; telephone with answering machine and caller ID; and splendid holiday lights and decorations from mid-December through the second of January.
